Exercise Supplements - Categories

All fighters need a certain amount of protein and bodybuilding supplements for muscle gain, you can acquire them through exercise supplements or the food you eat, as with most martial art athletes it is not always possible to eat the right amount of protein directly after training hard, when it's needed most! I like to think of my fight training as a form of natural body building, building up muscle fitness with bodybuilding supplements.

The best time to take protein is within 20 minutes of the end of your training, this is when nutritional supplements come into their own, it is almost impossible to acquire a full meal, let alone be able to eat it, when your heart is still racing.

Another good time to take a protein powder supplement is before within 1 hour before training when you actually need protein for the muscle to feed off, other wise your body will use some of your muscle for energy.

It is not always a good idea to eat just before training, or you may end up throwing it over your training partner, insuring you have the right amount protein in your body before exercise would mean that your muscle mass could remain static or even gain with exercise.

In athletes, the requirement for protein is much more than your average man walking down the street, the average man would need between 0.8 and 1 g of protein for every kilogram of body weight, per day, just to keep his body from losing muscle mass.

For the elite athlete training in martial arts or any endurance training would need between 1.4and 1.6 g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day to ensure muscles damaged from exercise are repaired and fueled to avoid loss of muscle.

If you find yourself on a high protein diet we recommend New Zealand produced whey protein because of the purity and ease of mixing, we also have a great range of Creatine powders and protein bars
