Jitsu Shop is headed by well known martial arts enthusiast Brett Gill. Brett is an experienced practitioner of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is also a purple belt with the Douglas Santos Jiu Jitsu academy in Auckland.

Brett began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1999 and competed in many tournaments. After two years training he won the white belt division in the Australian Open (when he was knocking on the door of 40!) At the time he was training under the highly respected blue belt Karl Webber. After taking a break for a few years, Brett is now back in training and more involved in the sport than ever.

Brett’s immediate goal is to continue training 3 days a week for the next two to three years. By competing regularly in tournaments he hopes to continue improving confidence and technical ability. International age group tournaments are also on the horizon, though Brett would prefer not to dwell on the exact age in question. Let’s just say it is comfortably over 40! Brett’s long term goal is to gain a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Professor Douglas Santos.
